Evidence and research

Commercially useful. Academically honest.

The doctorate provides a strong problem definition, a research-informed intervention architecture and bounded participant evidence. It does not yet provide causal, predictive or benchmark claims.

Doctoral foundation

Navigating Cultural Collision

The research examined the onboarding and adaptation of Western healthcare professionals as self-initiated expatriates in Qatar and Saudi Arabia through pragmatic action research.

What the research found

Entry friction was organisational, relational and personal.

The strongest commercial implication is that adaptation cannot be treated as the newcomer’s private responsibility.

Doctoral finding

Organisational entry was mediated

Authority, information, role clarity and access to relationships shaped whether expertise could become legitimate contribution.

Doctoral finding

Orientation was not enough

Administrative arrival did not automatically create practical confidence, relational anchoring or clarity about how the organisation worked.

Doctoral finding

Informal networks carried hidden work

Expatriate networks provided tacit information, translation, reassurance and belonging that formal processes often lacked.

Bounded intervention evidence

Four supports were evaluated

The guide, buddy system, mindfulness app and monthly coaching received separate end-of-probation ratings in the 12-person cohort. Results differed by component.

Bounded intervention evidence

Reported use changed over time

References to the written guide declined over three months, while reported mindfulness-app use increased. Buddy support and coaching served different relational and sensemaking functions.

Emergent method

Adaptive response can be practised

The Pathway Method created reflective space to interpret, reframe and select a more deliberate response. It requires wider testing.

Bounded intervention results

Participant evaluation—not controlled outcome evidence.

4.25/6

Onboarding material

Average usefulness; clarity and relevance averaged 5.33/6.

5.75/6

Buddy support

Average support and advice rating; availability averaged 5.08/6.

3.67/6

Reflective regulation

Initial helpfulness was mixed, while reported use increased across the three months.

5.17/6

Coaching

Average usefulness; advice and support averaged 5.42/6.

Source note: final doctoral thesis, pp. 165–188. These are end-of-probation self-reported ratings on a 1–6 scale from a 12-person, 12-week intervention. The researcher also delivered the coaching; there was no comparator. The findings do not establish causality, retention impact, productivity improvement or financial return.

Evidence maturity

Every claim shows what supports it.

Doctoral finding

Supported directly by the completed doctoral research.

Bounded intervention evidence

Observed in the 12-person, three-month intervention cohort.

Emergent method

Developed through the research and requiring wider testing.

Practice hypothesis

A commercially plausible application not yet tested as a product.

In pilot validation

Being evaluated prospectively with a client cohort.

Claims Stratum will not make

Evidence discipline is part of the product.

  • Scientifically or psychometrically validated
  • Proven to reduce attrition or improve performance
  • Predicts individual expatriate success
  • Guaranteed return on investment
  • Works across every nationality, sector or GCC country
  • Clinical wellbeing or mental-health treatment
  • Deterministic comparisons of Western and Arab behaviour

Validation route

Stronger claims must be earned in stages.

  1. 0–4 months

    Content validity

Buyer, newcomer, manager and host-national review plus cognitive testing.

  2. 4–12 months

    Multi-client feasibility

Two to three paid pilots; acceptability, completion, fidelity and directional change.

  3. 9–24 months

    Instrument validation

Reliability, construct, criterion and fairness testing with formal sample design.

  4. 12–30 months

    Outcome evaluation

Matched, controlled or stepped-wedge studies through days 90, 180 and 365.

  5. 24–36 months

    Benchmarking

Representative multi-client norms only when sample quality supports them.
